Covid 19 Update - July 2021
One of the positive outcomes of the Covid crisis of 2019 is that teletherapy for many clients is more convenient and equally or more effective than face to face meetings. I last saw clients face to face in March 2020 and surrendered my lease in October 2020. I currently sublease a space in downtown Harrisonburg for emergency face to face sessions, but don’t plan to return to in office sessions.
Due to a lack of license portability, clients must be in Virginia at the time of the scheduled session.
Most insurers worked with mental health providers in ways that allowed us to provide continuity of care - waiving co-pays for patients/clients. But due to the additional burden I have experienced processing claims and getting paid, I am no longer a participating provider with most health insurance plans.
I am confident that online therapy can be as powerful and transformative as in person - and in some ways exceeds the effectiveness of in person therapy.
I am grateful to continue to learn and to collaborate with colleagues around the world as we all become highly skilled in facilitating online therapy.
